Jesus himself said; "The harvest is truly great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest." Luke 10:2, NKJV.
This verse came to mind today after receiving a visit from a political campaign worker. This fellow was not at all eloquent yet he conveyed his message well and I sensed that he believed in the candidates he was "stumping" for.
That set me to thinking. If the politicians can get organized and send out workers to get their message out, why then has it become so difficult for Christians to do the same and spread the Good News? It seems that every other organization including "religious" ones have their workers out in force just as soon as the weather gets pretty. It seems that Christ's Church is sorely lacking in that aspect.
The saving knowledge of Jesus Christ is much to important to keep to ourselves. It would be great if every church in the US would send out workers, but many do not. The time is getting short and the harvest will not keep. If nothing else we all need to proclaim the Good News, even if it is as individuals. Sometimes that is the only way to reach people, by engaging them one on one; at work, the grocery, day care or wherever. I suppose you do not have to be a part of a gang of evangelists accosting the neighborhoods, but I do believe the churches in America need to emphasize evangelism. Christ sent them out "two by two" (Luke 10:1) and I am sure He would not mind if we did it "one by one." Besides, do we not believe in Whom we are working for? Let Him lead and He will put us where He needs us, right place, right time, every time. Just remember he wants to use all of us.
Just something to think about, myself included.
